Pull request steps

Good day everyone. I recently submitted a pull request to fix a long standing bug, 4502.

I very rarely submit fixes to outside organizations and I'm doubting if I did everything correctly within the pull request. So far this is just submitting the request and adding the license CLA. Is that all that needs done to get it moved along to review and merging? Did I miss any steps?

It occurred to me afterwards that the contribution documentation itself would be a great place to outline pull request process for public contributors.

I'd be happy to add a section covering this, just want to be sure that I'm accurately reflecting what the process is supposed to look like.
