Aishah (she/her)
Please let me know if something in here is incorrect. I'd rather know and correct it 😄

How I get my best work done:

  • I appreciate having a plan and set deadlines beforehand, knowing exactly how much time I have for a certain task
  • I also like having a visual of what it is I am trying to create
  • I believe a team should have someone who mediates the discussion to minimise time wastage as I get frustrated when no one takes the lead and we spend lots of time going in circles
  • I am motivated when I am excited about a project. So, if the project is ambitious or fun etc
  • I learn by reading and trying different things out. I like knowing different ways of doing the same thing and advantages/disadvantages of a certain approach

The role I usually take in a team:

  • I am a natural planner and very much enjoy planning things out in the beginning and planning how we do things, as well as keeping things organised using the project board and taking notes
  • I am fairly pessimistic and will always be able to tell you why a certain approach would not work. This could be useful when choosing ideas as I can provide downsides to every option
  • I like editing too so the quality role excites me though I haven't had the time to do a proper job of it so far

My communication style:

Driven by the need to get a thing done, analytical and geared towards problem-solving. Fast-paced and goal-oriented, focused on results and achieving success. Likes weighing pros and cons and looking at problems from every angle. Can come across impatient, pessimistic and insensitive. Can get frustrated at times. Shutsdown and needs to take a step back when feeling discouraged.

What I value:

  • the little things e.g. having little chats before starting a task / asking about what people are up to etc
  • people taking the time to let me know if I am doing something wrong / how I could improve

What people misunderstand about me:

  • My facial expression at rest can sometimes be (wrongly) interpreted as angry
  • I am not good at asking for help
  • I get frustrated when I feel like I am not understanding something I should

How I like to get my feedback:

  • straight up - please be brutally honest; I want to improve and getting honest feedback is the best way to do so

Technical strengths & weaknesses:

  • still trying to find out what I'm good at
  • Not sure it's a strength but I quite like playing around with SQL
  • need to improve on learning how to explain things to others
  • CSS is hard, really really hard 😢

Interests (programming or otherwise!):

  • I very much enjoy puzzles, boardgames and challenges (which is probably why I enjoyed codewars a bit too much)
  • Taking bad photos 📸
  • puntastic puns

Great scrum facilitator- gives direction but always offers options, asks for feedback, and gives you room to manoeuvre in your responsibilities. Always has a good overview of the project and our priorities, focussed and engaged but still has a laugh and will somehow make it fun to be stay up late building functions... sharp as a tack and a blessing to work with

A great person to be in a team with and pair programme with! Very organised with clear plans of actions as scrum facilitator, ensuring we take breaks and also making sure we are all clear on what direction we are going in. When pair programming together Aishah always seems to either know or eventually find a solution!

ahhhhmazing scrum facilitator! She kept us motivated, reminded us to commit and have snacks, and we ended up building a great app ☺️
