Simulator window not opening

OS: Linux (NixOS, running gnome wayland)
Steps:

1. Downloaded 0.9.15 tar.gz from https://github.com/carla-simulator/carla/releases/tag/0.9.15/
2. Downloaded python and pip, and pip install pygame carla==0.9.15
3. One terminal: ./CarlaUE4.sh -nullrhi -nosound
4. Other terminal: python3 PythonAPI/examples/no_rendering_mode.py

Issue: No simulator window
Same steps on an ubuntu virtual machine starts the simulator window just fine.

I have no clue why, please ask for any logs/additional info you would need to help me.
